There are two attractive old inns in the Parish, The Bush Inn at Penallt (formerly The Bush and The Inn at Penallt) near Croes Vane, and The Boat on the River Wye, near the now disused railway bridge, and at the point where the ferry used to cross the river.
A third (now closed), just outside the Parish boundary, near ‘the five trees‘, where the parishes of Trellech, Cwmcarvan, Mitchel Troy and Penallt meet, used to be The Gockett, a house of considerable antiquity, where meetings of local magistrates used to be held.
