Pancakes And Harvests

Pancakes and Harvests

Shrove Tuesday pancake parties will be remembered as a ‘Penallt thing’, taking place after St Mary’s pre-Lenten evening service, though now with the unavailability of the school, difficulties with heating tend to produce somewhat colder pancakes than we would like!

The auction of produce following St Mary’s Harvest Thanksgiving also presents some difficulties without the school but will always be recalled because of Jim Saunders’ genial auctioneering techniques, with mothers finding themselves going home overloaded with vegetables etc, bid for by excited offspring, and flower arrangers coping with huge marrows bought for decorating the Parish Church the following Sunday! A charitable auction in aid of Riding for the Disabled has also taken place in most recent years together with a splendid Pelham Hall Harvest Supper.
