Speed test

Providing evidence to support your Welsh Government Broadband Support Scheme grant application

When to do your speed checks

You will need to collect 3 results, each one on a different day in a 7-day period and in a different time slot – morning, afternoon or evening (see table below).  The grant application depends on you being able to show that your download speed “is consistently below 2 Mbps”, so all results must show a download speed of less than 2Mbps to qualify for the grant.

Run one test a day each in a different time slot between these times:

How to do your speed checks

1. Go to www.speedtest.net

2. Click ‘BEGIN TEST’ and wait for a few moments for the test to run.  A download speed of less than 2Mbps qualifies.  Write the result in the table above for your own records. [Print out this sheet to do so!]

3. Click ‘SHARE THIS RESULT’ and a new frame is displayed.

4. Click ‘COPY’ which then changes to ‘COPIED’.

5. Go to your normal email system and start a new email.

6. Place your cursor in the body of the email and click ‘Paste’.  The web address of the speed test result is displayed.  Add your name, phone number and address to the note, and immediately send it to us at [email protected] with the Subject as “speedtest result” (see screenshot below for an example of what the mail should look like).  We will then match it to your application

7. Repeat the test on another 2 days in the same 7-day period for the remaining time slots, and email them to us as above.
