Dear Penallt Residents,
After a long pause dealing with the tragic death of my parents last year I am about to recommence woodland management work in Pen-y-Graig Wood alongside Glyn Road. The felled trees from last March will be cleared, the old agricultural track opposite Millbank Cottage will be reinstated and work will be undertaken to renovate the ancient stone barn. This will then be used as my main forestry base for craft and coppiced wood products. Monmouth Council gave me permitted development approval for this last November.
Please can motorists be aware that from next Thursday 12th March, for about 5 days, some small scale track work will take place from the entrance to the old barn. The entry point is on Glyn Road opposite the entrance to Millbank Cottage. The work will be supervised by D&M Landscaping Ltd. There may be some slight delays to vehicle movement but these will be very negligible and I would ask for your patience. Road warning signs will be put out.

I am the new owner of Pen-y-Graig Wood which lies between Glyn Farm and Barn Lane alongside Glyn Road. The red shaded area on the map (right) shows its rough extent.
I have been made aware of several serious incidents over the last few years resulting in serious damage to vehicles and the BT telephone line. The most recent of these was 2 weeks ago in the storms resulting in a 3 day loss of land line telephone communication.
I have commissioned, as matter of urgency, 3 days of safety clearance work of overhanging branches and trees suffering from rot which present a real danger to people using the road and the BT line. After consultation with the Highways Department and Forestry Commission this work will start in the week commencing 10th March and will take about 3 days to complete.
I am acutely aware how much locals need this route keeping open due to the land slide above The Boat Inn, which has cut off access from that side. My plan is to keep the road open with some limited vehicle control measures and to pull branches and any necessary trees back into the wood on the south side of the road. However, when cutting overhanging branches some short safety stoppages will have to be made for vehicles. I will be personally overseeing this. Please can I ask for your patience.
