Dear Penallt Residents
As you are aware and following the village meeting in January, we have been unable to overcome our significant operating losses for the last 3 years. The 600% business rates still remains a major factor. Unfortunately as such we now have no option but to reconsider how we operate the business in the future.
In the last 2 months we have implemented all recommendations from the feedback from the locals, which unfortunately haven’t produced the results which we had hoped for. If anything, local and new trade has reduced which is disappointing. The changes proposed are as follows:
1. We will now be running the pub mainly as an events venue apart from Sundays – Brunch from 10am through to 3pm – the bar will close at 10pm (light bar snacks from 5pm to 8:30pm); Sundays will also include open mic night and other Events.
2. The Kitchen and Bar will be open for events which will be advertised well in advance on the inn’s & the village websites. These will include :
I. Music nights – next one is The Godseys on 6th April
II. Sunday night open mic nights (Quiz nights 1st Sunday in the month)
III. Cooking courses (Asian / Indian / Persian etc)
IV. Yoga retreats
V. Billyfest – this year is 25th & 26th May – upcoming bands playing from 12 till midnight. As you know last year’s event was a great success – see you there !
