Using actual Tibetan monks as film extras, this extraordinary film tells the mystical tale of Milarepa whose once wealthy family falls on hard times at the hands of an evil Uncle. Milarepa is obliged by his mother to learn the black arts of sorcery in order to reek revenge, an education which involves some bizarre magicians and demons. But Milarepa ultimately takes no pleasure in his Uncle’s downfall and later gains more traditional Buddhist mystical insights. The film features some stunning mountain scenery as its backdrop.
