Saturday 6th April “Lonely are the Brave”
American
Dir. David Miller 1962
Running time 109mins
In a career which included Spartacus as well as Van Gogh in Lust for Life, still Kirk Douglas felt this was his best picture. He plays the part of a free-wheeling cowboy who doesn’t fit into the modern world preferring the lifestyle of a ranch-hand on horseback. But when he falls foul of the law, he is doggedly pursued by a laconic Walter Matthau who actually displays some sympathy for his quarry. Excellent support acting from George Kennedy and Gena Rowlands.
