MAC codes & switching broadband to Spectrum Internet

You will need to obtain a MAC code when you want to switch provider. This is a code, completely unique to you, which provides important information about your internet connection. MAC is an acronym of Migration Authorisation Code and is an individual 17-18 digit alphanumeric number. When you sign up with Spectrum Internet, your MAC code will have essential information it needs to switch your broadband supply over (e.g. details of your phone exchange, type of line etc.)

How to use your MAC code to switch

  • Call your current broadband provider for your MAC code (see list below for numbers to call)
  • Send the MAC code to Spectrum Internet by using the online form available here.

What does a MAC code look like?

Each MAC code is an individual combination of letters and numbers. Here are some example formats of what your MAC code will look like:

  • BBIP12345678/9AB12
  • BBDS12345678/9AB12
  • TIP123456789/AB12C
  • LXXX1234567/DC22J

Where are MAC codes available from?

Simply phone your current broadband provider and ask them for you MAC code to move your broadband. This should be provided within five days, usually by email. Make sure you do not cancel your contract when you receive your MAC code, as it may take some time before you are connected to Spectrum Internet. Some ISPs will, at this stage, do anything they can to persuade you not to move away from them. They may offer you cheaper deals or may even be reluctant to release the MAC code to you. They may also tell you that you don’t need a MAC code at all. Our advice is to explain that you want to switch suppliers not because you don’t like your current supplier but simply because the only way to receive significantly faster broadband is through the Spectrum project.
