Cyril Davies of Frostlands, and previously of the Glyn, died on Wednesday, 5th August, 1987. The service was on 11th August at the old Church – a service that we will all remember, and in honour of a good man.
We have had many funerals in the past few years, but a parishioner on this occasion felt inspired to verse:
MEMORIES
We’ve just had another funeral,
One of many in the last few years.
And why on the day is it raining?
Perhaps to help hide our tears!
The village is getting depleted
Of faces once well known to me.
Maybe gone, but never forgotten,
But in peace I hope they’ll be.
I shall miss seeing Cyril in the village
As I miss seeing the others, no less,
But my memories will keep them living,
Even though they have gone to their rest.
The strength of community feeling shown at funerals such as this, where the congregation overflowed into the churchyard and stood singing that favourite hymn, “The Old Rugged Cross”, expresses the true spirit of Penallt.
