In 1987 the newsletter advertised a barbecue at The Old Vicarage to commemorate the fact that 100 years ago the two parishes of Penalt and Trellech were separated and the Vicarage built. Previously Penallt had come under Trellech, though it had been run, as now, independently, and with a curate in charge. We continued: ‘The new joint parish arrangement has now been running in growing fellowship for two years and the Barbecue is a kind and ecumenical thought of Mr and Mrs Bone, whose Old Vicarage grounds have celebrated so many occasions in the past.
