In order to enhance visual amenity, low voltage electricity power lines can be placed underground in the Wye Valley AONB
Where can undergrounding be considered
- Throughout the AONB
- 11kV and low voltage lines and poles (wooden poles with either 3, 2 or 1 wire)
- Where undergrounding will enhance the landscape for as many people as possible e.g. from viewpoints, community facilities, Public Rights of Way, etc.
- To enhance the setting of features of the AONB
What can’t be considered for undergrounding
- BT wires and where poles are shared with BT
- Where landscape enhancement is only of benefit to private residences
- High voltage power lines
Where have powerlines been undergrounded in the AONB?
Kerne Bridge: removing 1,000m of power lines from the setting and view of Goodrich castle, Flanesford Priory and Kerne Bridge:-
Offa’s Dyke National Trail: removing 1,500m of wires along the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail leading towards The Kymin:-
