2019 autumn programme


Film Night in Pelham Hall and Films on the Narth continue their 2019 season with a programme of seven contemporary films, shown at alternate venues on a two-a-month basis. 

Films will be shown on Friday evenings at both venues with doors opening at 19:00 for a 19:30 showing. The entry charge is £5 and refreshments, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic will be available at the bar.

13 September, Pelham Hall, Penallt: ALL IS TRUE [12A] 101 mins – Biography/Drama

It’s 1613 and the Globe Theatre has been destroyed by fire. Acclaimed playwright William Shakespeare returns to Stratford to face a troubled past and a neglected family. Poignant and beautifully made, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, with Judy Dench and Ian McKellen.

27 September, The Narth Village Hall: COLETTE [15] 112 mins – Biography/Drama

Author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, portrayed by Keira Knightley, and her rise to literary success, fighting for recognition against the societal constraints and gender roles of the early 20th century. A strong, drama featuring Fiona Shaw, and Dominic West as the domineering husband.

11 October, Pelham Hall, Penallt: FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY [12A] 108 mins – Biography/Comedy

A remarkable true story of a Norwich girl turned wrestling star, in an uplifting British comedy directed by Stephen Merchant, with Florence Pugh, Lena Headey, Nick Frost and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

25 October, The Narth Village Hall: LATE NIGHT [15] 102 mins – Comedy/drama

Emma Thompson plays an American talk-show host, delightfully wicked in a comedy drama about gender equality, with a witty script that debunks the usual stereotypes. Also features Mindy Kaling and John Lithgow.

8 November, The Narth Village Hall: YESTERDAY [12a] 116 mins – Comedy/fantasy/music

The latest film from popular director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 2012 Olympics Ceremony) and screenwriter Richard Curtis, featuring Himesh Patel as an aspiring musician who becomes the only person in the world who remembers the existence of the Beatles.

15 November, Pelham Hall, Penallt: ROCKETMAN [15] 121 mins – Biography/drama/music

A musical biography of Elton John, superbly played by Taron Egerton, which entertains without holding back on the years of addiction, the lows and ultimate redemption of one of the world’s best-known musicians. With Jamie Bell and Richard Madden.

6 December, Pelham Hall, Penallt: FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS [12A] 112 mins – Comedy/drama/music

A feelgood film for the season: based on the true story of a group of Cornish fishermen who achieve a top 10 hit with their sea shanties. Featuring a great cast of British character actors, led by James Purefoy and Daniel May, and some joyful, lively music
